Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Daniel, the last person to give you presentation. Today I want to introduce you a city.
1.
Do you ever imagine a place that is full of dreams and temptations, a true 24-hours sleepless city, big luxury hotels, wonderful song and dance performance, the world’s top shopping malls, and food is mouth watering… You want to experience the feeling of luxury and excitement? Only in Las Vegas!
2.
So, “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas”. You can see this is the landmark of Las Vegas. Here fabulous means extremely good or impressive. This sign was created in 1959. Over the years, the sign has been moved south several times on Las Vegas Boulevard as growth has continued. The back of the sign reads “Drive Carefully” and “Come Back Soon”. On March 13, 2009 Clark County nominated the sign for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
3.
Ok. First let’s look through the history and demographics of Las Vegas. The picture on the screen shows the Las Vegas in about 1895. It’s a poor and small town. Las Vegas is a Spanish phrase means fertile meadows. (a field with wild grass and flowers). The first reported visit to Las Vegas was Spanish in 1829. In 1844 John Fremont traveled though here and drew the map of Nevada. Las Vegas started as a stopover on the pioneer trails to the west, and became a popular railroad town in the early 1900s. In 1909, it became the seat of government of a newly formed Clark County. In 1911 Las Vegas became an incorporated city.
At 1931, three major events happened and changed the Nevada and the Las Vegas.
From the mid 80s of 20th century, the population in Las Vegas grows fast. Near 7 percent average annual population growth made the total city population from 1985 to 1995 almost doubled. The region is one of the fastest growing in the United States.
4.
Let’s move on to see the geography and climate of Las Vegas. Here is the map of United State. We can see that Las Vegas sits in the Southwest of the America and situated on the dry desert floor within Clark County, Nevada State.
Climate here is a dry desert climate. The city enjoys sufficient sunshine year-round within very little rainfall. The summer months of June through September are very hot. Here is a temperature compare between Las Vegas and Hangzhou. Both city lies in close north latitude. The two blue lines show the avg high and low temperature in Hangzhou. And the other yellow lines are Las Vegas. From the chart we can see the Las Vegas is a little hot than Hangzhou.
5.
After the static normal introduction, let’s now have a experience in Las Vegas. Why does it have so much attraction to the world? Let’s begin.
Here lists 10 exciting things in Las Vegas. We can go through them one by one. First is “the Strip”. (Strip means a road with a lot of shops, restaurants etc along it, a narrow area of land)The Strip - Las Vegas Boulevard(Boulevard means a wide road in a town or city, often with trees along the sides) - Shines most brilliantly at night. Magnificent hotels glow green and gold... Pink, red, yellow, blue and white neon pulsates all around. Electric lights flash. Music plays. Volcanoes erupt. Fountains soar. Cars create two moving streams of light, red and white. People in the thousands walk up, down and over the Strip. Roller coasters corkscrew high above the ground. A laser beam, visible from space, penetrates the night sky, inviting the whole universe to come and play.
And that's only outside - step into any of the iconic casino resorts along the Strip, and you'll enter a world of pure imagination.
The heart of the action
The Las Vegas Strip rises out of the desert for no other reason than your enjoyment. The whole world comes to play in Vegas. It's a sight to behold, an experience never to be forgotten.
In Las Vegas there are things to see and do on every corner, at every hour of the night and day. The atmosphere and excitement will infuse you with enough energy to experience them all.
You will return home with a smile on your face and some extraordinary tales to tell.
The Strip Stats
As of June 30, 2008 there were 77,166 hotel rooms on the Strip, and almost 104,000 rooms in the Strip and Off-Strip areas combined.
Second is Downtown.
Viva Las Vegas™ Downtown is where the fun all began in Las Vegas, a century ago. With a long and storied history, downtown still rivals the Strip as a favorite Vegas destination.
Vegas past and Vegas future live side by side downtown, where the Fremont Street Experience, a spectacular $70-million canopy of light and sound, envelopes the historic hotels and casinos along four blocks of Fremont Street. Like most things Vegas, downtown shows best at night, when the Fremont Street Experience lights up and street performers entertain the crowds.
Old Vegas is new again
Downtown is a place of humble beginnings where the rough bars and entertainment outposts that served cowboys and railroad workers at the turn of the last century grew into the hotel casinos that line Fremont Street today.
In early 1990s downtown's ambiance was forever changed with the creation of a $70 million canopy of lights and sound that enshrouds most of the historic hotel casinos and neon signs of Fremont Street, providing a seamless ceiling over a place that put Las Vegas on the map.
Downtown Stats
A 2004 upgrade replaced 2.1 million incandescent bulbs with 12 million LEDs.
The canopy is 90 feet high and runs along Fremont Street for 1,400 feet (5 football fields).
Third thing is “Shows and Events”.
The possibilities are endless in Las Vegas—the entertainment capital of the world. With more than 100 shows in town, there is something for everyone!
From classic showgirls and magicians, up-and-coming punk bands or legendary crooners, to cirque-style acrobats and trapeze artists, Las Vegas offers shows that will amaze and delight everyone.
OK. Let’s see the next. “Dining”.
Once known for its all-you-can-eat buffets, huge coffee-shop breakfasts and classic red-velvet-and-leather-booth steak joints, Vegas has enjoyed a culinary renaissance of late.
No, make that a culinary revolution. As talented chefs continue to flock to Vegas, the city reinforces its reputation as the world's premier dining destination.
“Shopping”
Long ago, shopping in Vegas was a diversion - something to keep the ladies occupied while the bread-winners played the tables. No longer.
Vegas has become a global shopping destination. Las Vegas Boulevard South is more than just a playground - it's one of the world's great shopping streets.
Huge outlet malls vie with exclusive boutiques in exquisite casino resorts. On the Strip, shoppers will find everything from haute couture to traditional Vegas souvenirs - dice clocks and playing cards.
The Fashion Show Mall put Las Vegas on the retail map. Since then many major Strip resorts have opened spectacular shopping areas featuring some of the world's best brands and most exclusive designers, while a number of outlet malls have proven popular with shoppers.
“Nightlife”
Vegas by night. It's more than bright lights. It's a whole different after-dark world, a scene like no other.
From traditional casino lounges and cocktail bars to dance-till-dawn nightclubs featuring top deejays, Las Vegas will keep you partying.
Ultralounges are the latest trend in Vegas nightspots; they are stylish, intimate spaces where DJs spin cutting-edge tunes in a conversation-friendly environment while fashion-forward hipsters mingle with martinis in hand.
“Gaming”
There's always a chance. Anything is possible. Playing the odds has been part of Vegas since the first casino opened in this desert town. Someone always wins.
Any time is the right time to pull up to a blackjack table, roulette wheel or craps table. Casinos are open 24 hours a day. If there's a game to be played, you can play it in Las Vegas.
If table games aren't your style, many casinos offer sports betting, which can be just as fun. Sit back and relax in huge sports books and watch the sports action live on big screens.
Slot machines, once a diversion for the companions of "serious" table-players, are bigger than ever, and the playing never stops.
Many casinos offer gaming lessons for those who would like to learn a little more before hitting the floor. It never hurts to know the rules.
“Golf”
Vegas has been a favored golf destination since the early '50s and '60s, with championship-caliber 18-hole courses right on the Strip.
Mild weather, clear blue skies, spectacular views of the Strip and the surrounding mountains make Las Vegas the ideal choice for a golfing holiday. With more than 60 courses in the Vegas area catering to every skill level and budget, there's no shortage of options.
With moderate daytime temperatures, fall, winter and spring are the high seasons for golf in Las Vegas. Early-morning or late-evening play will help you beat the heat of summer, when you can also enjoy lower green fees.
“Attractions & Activities”
There's never a moment's rest in Las Vegas, where an endless array of attractions vie for your attention.
Circus performers fly overhead in one casino, while singing cowgirls entertain customers in another. In need of a thrill or two? Why not ride a roller coaster a thousand feet in the sky. Or, for a change of pace, enter the sanctuary of a gallery for some of the world's finest works of art.
Everywhere you turn, you'll find something extraordinary to see or do.
“Weddings”
There's no cooler place to get hitchedthan Las Vegas.
Your wedding day - it's a celebration of love, and a lifelong memory. It's your big day, and you want things your way.
Before you say, "I do," to your special someone, Las Vegas is ready to help you walk the aisle in style.
Whether it's a formal affair with tuxedos and gowns and a huge ballroom, or a drive-thru chapel with a theme, such as Intergalactic or a medieval union – Vegas has it all waiting for you.
All you have to do is show up and call the shots. Well, there are a couple of rules. You also need $55, valid identification and a Social Security number to get your marriage license at the Clark County Marriage License Bureau (open from 8 a.m. to midnight, even on holidays). That's not so bad, though, is it?
But from there, it's easy. Most chapels have a full complement of services to accommodate any wedding plans. Need a ring or two? They've got 'em. Flowers? Check. Gown and tuxedo? Rentable. Leave your worries behind and enjoy the biggest moment of your life, in the most exciting destination.

拉斯维加斯介绍英文版Las Vegas
Las Vegas is in the southern part of the state of Nevada, about 50 miles east of the California border and 30 miles west of the Arizona border. The city is divided into two main parts: a compact downtown called Glitter Gulch and the Strip, a corridor of hotels and casinos(娱乐场,赌场).
The only natural feature to account for the location of Las Vegas is a spring north of downtown. Once used by Paiute Indians on their seasonal visits to the area, it was re-discovered by Mexican scout Rafael Rivera in 1829. The area became known to overland travelers as las vegas - 'the meadows' - a place with reliable water and feed for horses. Las Vegas became a regular stop on the southern emigrant route to California, the Spanish Trail. In the 1850s, Mormons(摩门教徒) built the town's first structures, a small mission(教堂) and fort(堡垒); the fort became a ranch house(低矮的平房), but there was little development until 1902, when much of the land was sold to a railroad company. The area that is now downtown was subdivided when the tracks came through, with 1200 lots sold on 15 May 1905 alone - a date now celebrated as the city's birthday.
As a railroad town, Las Vegas had machine shops, a good number of hotels, saloons and gambling houses. The railroad laid off(解雇) hundreds in the mid 1920s, but one Depression-era development gave the city a new life. The huge Hoover Dam(胡佛水坝)project commenced in 1931, providing jobs and growth in the short term and water and power for the city's long-term growth.
Also in 1931, Nevada legalized gambling and simplified its divorce laws, paving the way for the first big casino, El Rancho, which was built by Los Angeles developers and opened in 1941. The next wave of investors, also from out of town(乡下), were mobsters like Bugsy Siegel, who built the Flamingo in 1946 and set the tone for the new casinos - big and flashy, with lavish entertainment laid on to attract high rollers(挥金如土的人).
The glitter that brought in the high rollers also attracted smaller spenders, but in larger numbers. Southern California provided a growing market for Las Vegas entertainment, and improvements in transport made it accessible to the rest of the country. Thanks to air conditioning and reliable water supplies, Vegas became one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. In recent years, Vegas has bent over backwards(尽最大的力量) to remake itself into a family resort destination, building theme parks (主题公园)inside its hotels. Hotels have outdone each other with working volcanoes, million-gallon fishtanks and miniature Manhattans. All of which - along with dozens of artificial lakes in the suburbs - has put a huge strain on the city's water supply, but it hasn't slowed the development juggernaut(不可抗拒的力量).
Today Las Vegas boasts 19 of the world's 20 largest hotels, attracts 33 million visitors per year, earns over US.25 billion in annual gaming revenue, and marries over 100,000 people each year. There are other cities witih terrific entertainment and gaming opportunities, but there is no place in the world like Las Vegas, and no city even pretending to be.
