Lafayette City Council Talks BMX Park, Senior Housing and a Lot Sale
Although not a formal agenda item, the City Council engaged in a bit of discussion surrounding the proposed Lafayette BMX Park on Monday. Suzanne Sommer of No Lafayette Bike Park alleged that the city continues to remove her informational signs from the community bulletin boards at the Lafayette Community Park while City Manager Steve Falk said the boards at both park entrances are not for public use,China Construction Machinery they are for city postings only. Falk informed Sommer there is a public board available near the bathrooms at the Community Center. Sommer indicated she is not the only citizen who utilizes the boards.
Sommer's informational signs included a city-drawn map of the proposed BMX park. In the interest of full disclosure,ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE: V12 embraces manual gear s, she asked the city to post its own map (without her information) on the boards since the BMX park would affect Lafayette Community Park patrons. Sommer cited a recent Lamorinda Patch article that discussed the ACLU's challenge of the City of Orinda's sign ordinance on free speech grounds.
After public comment Monday, Sustainable Lafayette provided a report on the 2010 Farmers Market and asked the city if it could post a permanent sign ? as other cities have done - acknowledging Lafayette's fledgling Farmers Market. City officials agreed to review the sign ordinance to see if this could be done.

The City Council agreed to adopt Ordinance 598 Senior Housing Overlay District. According to the new ordinance, "The Senior Housing Overlay" (SHO), district is established to provide for the development of China Construction Machinery a variety of senior housing types pursuant to standards that reflect the unique character of senior residential occupancy,Republican mailers spread lies,NFL Jerseys, and to implement the goal of the Housing Element of the Lafayette General Plan to achieve an adequate supply of safe, decent housing for all residents of Lafayette. In establishing the district, the City Council expressly found that (1), the impacts of senior citizen housing developments are lower than other multi-family residential developments; and (2) senior citizen housing developments benefit greatly from a close proximity to downtown services and amenities.
Planning and Building Services Manager Niroop Srivatsa discussed Eden Housing's proposed low-income senior housing project near Bo's Barbeque. In accordance with the General Plan,Fitzwilliam’s delight with major new acquisitions, the city approved a 48-unit low-income senior housing development to be constructed by Eden Housing at that location. The web site of the 42-year-old business, China Construction Machinery, says: "The mission of Eden Housing is to build and maintain high-quality, well-managed, service-enhanced affordable housing communities that meet the needs of lower income families, seniors and persons with disabilities."
The Eden project, which was supposed to have been completed in early 2010, was delayed because it was unable to secure needed HUD funding. On Monday, the council approved Eden's request to draw down on $247,022.84 of the $500,000 previously committed by the City Redevelopment Agency. Eden needs the money for taxes and other expenses while it reapplies for HUD funding.
