Tank man is one of the most famous heroes around the world . Hundreds of millions of people
know him , but few people know what his name is .
Tank man was a young man. He stood in the street at the center of a big city. Beside him, some
tanks wanted to go east. Maybe his friends were killed by the army, so he didn't want the tanks to
kill more of his friends. He stood in front of the tanks and blocked them. The tanks wanted to
bypass him, he blocked them again. The tanks tried to bypass him one more time, he blocked
them one more time. Then, he climbed on top of the front tank. Finally, a man looking like a
teacher took him away.
How brave of him! This is human's conscience and courage fighting with ruthless state apparatus!
The still and motion photography of the man standing alone before a line of tanks reached
international audiences practically overnight . It headlined hundreds of major newspapers and
news magazines and was the lead story on countless news broadcasts around the world . In April
1998 , Time magazine included the Tank man in its feature entitled Time 100: The Most Important
People of the Century . BBC filmed a documentary about him.
He is my favorite hero .
