This product cleaves the S-S linkages in the amount corresponding to the amount of SH group present and determines the SH groups quantitatively from the absorbance of thiol (lambda max=412 nm) in 5-mercapto-2-nitrobenzoic acid produced. Moreover, the method is convenient since the wave length of the maximum absorption of thiol hardly overlaps that of DTNA, which is lambda max = 325 nm.
