如果不告诉你，从动画到渲染品质真的好像是正片的一部分一样。Pixar延续了去年《Burn-E》的传统，力求把短片做为正片的外一篇，也就是平行线索的故事。而且品质上绝不妥协，为保证优良，动用他们重量级的团队倾力打造，就看看他们的动画团队吧：

动画总监：Michal Makarewicz

这个就是我之前提过无数次的Pixar 新一代牛人，2003年从AAU毕业到的Pixar，是Andrew和Angus在AAU的Pixar Class教学时的得意门生。他在Ratatouille中令人叹为观止的动画表演，把Anton Ego刻画的入木三分，并为他赢得了一个Anne动画个人最高荣誉。今年的CGOverdrive本来有机会一睹新一代大师风采（此人据称只有27,8岁）后来换了别人，着实遗憾。

动画师Mark C Harris，原Bluesky我最欣赏的几个动画师之一，连他的学生作品都是我们后来观摩学习的范例。

动画师Vladimir Cooperman，08年才从Sheridan College毕业的高材生，水平高，其学生作品C-Block在各大动画节中所向披靡，拿奖拿到手软。这个俄国人个子也高，据他的同学May说足有2米开外有。他的博客就叫做：http://tallrussian.blogspot.com/

Vladimir的最新博文正好把他获奖无数的C Block放到了YouTube上了。（国内朋友看这两个资源可能要辛苦一点）

还有Matt Majers，02年和Travis Hathaway一同进入Pixar，现在都是非常活跃的动画师。

个人认为这个短片里面的众狗动画，比正片里面的要好。

三年前有幸听过Tod 的课，非常和蔼可亲而勤奋敬业的一个人。关于Tod更多介绍，请参见10月4日的博文：Tod Polson执导的短片《纳法的南瓜公主》在Vimeo上有高清晰版本了。（如果国内的读者不能访问相关网络资源，请自行寻找翻墙工具。这里就不提供方法了，谢谢理解合作。）

Mark Oftedal也在那里，做Animation Instructor。Mark是前pixar最有才的动画师之一. 他启发了Doug Sweetland, Andrew Gordon, 两者现在都成为Pixar呼风唤雨的动画大拿. Andrew年初的时候来北京，曾经对我说Mark对他的动画生涯具有不可估量的影响。Andrew去年给Doug做了一期Spline Cast 访谈,Doug 提到Mark时还是充满敬意. 如果能接受他的教诲,当三生有幸.

Tod Polson是知名的概念设计师和动画导演，他曾经师从华纳传奇大师Chuck Jones多年，后者是华纳的Looney Tones的鼻祖。2006年夏天我曾有幸和他工作过一段时间，还聆听过他的讲座，非常专业也很和蔼的一个人。当时他的这个南瓜的短片已经制作完成，但是还没有公布，尚处于保密阶段。Tod在泰国有个工作室，来完成这部短片，Mark Oftedal是联合导演兼动画总监。Mark是前Pixar的资深动画师，从1993年一直到2000年，Pixar的Toy Story玩具总动员开始，他就是核心动画师了，一直到Monsters' Inc.的前期他才离开Pixar，后来娶了泰国的妻子，定居在曼谷。对Mark了解不多的读者，可以去google一下Mark的学生作品《4pm》，很好很强大。

昨天，乐高社区(LEGO Community)BricksABillion为Pixar的资深全能动画师Angus MacLane做了一个访谈，不过是关于乐高积木的，因为Angus除了在Pixar担任Animator，Additional Animator，Character Development，Storyboard Artist，Directing Animator，Story Artist，Voice Actor，Director of Short Film，参与从A Bug's Life以后几乎所有的长片短片的前中后期制作，在AAu带许多年学生，所有这些以外，还有时间拼出了102个乐高玩具角色，他称之为CubeDudes。

当然，当谈及动画师的时候，我们不喜欢用“bad”这个词，虽然我们都指的是那些动画做的糟糕的镜头。动画既是技术也是艺术上的造诣，有足够多的机会在两个领域都失败。技术方面更加学术，而且是基于真实物理特性，所以更加易于教授和学习。
Of course, we don't like to use the term "bad" in reference to animators, though we can all point to badly animated shots. Animation is both a technical and an artistic endeavor, and there are plenty of opportunities to fail in both those areas. The technical stuff is more academic and is based on real physics, and is therefore more easily taught and learned.

我相对有把握说，你尅教任何人动画基本物理特性，假设他们想学而且至少具备中等智商。更复杂的身体力学，则需要更强的分析思维力，以及很好的观察技巧。表演和设计就主观多了，这部分是很大的一块。动画的艺术方面要难教得多，因为很难去量化。我们知道我们喜欢什么，可是怎么去实现？哪里是培训力所不能及而需要才华发挥作用的地方？我不认为人人都能成为了不起的动画师。你可以教人们设计原理，表演理论，叙事惯例，镜头调度，他们再进行一定的改进。但是有一个问题，就是需要一定的与生俱来的才华。你必须要有好的表演直觉，你需要天生对时间掌握有感觉，你要知道怎么样去娱乐观众。

I'm relatively confident that you can teach anyone to animate basic physics, assuming they have the will to learn and at least an average intelligence. More complex body mechanics will take a stronger, more analytical mind and good observational skills. Acting and design are much more subjective, and they form the great divide. The artistic side of animation is much harder to teach, because it can be hard to quantify. We know what we like, but how do we arrive there? Where does training end and talent begin? I don't think that everyone has the capacity to be a great animator. You can teach people about design principles, acting theory, storytelling conventions and staging, and they will improve to a degree, but there comes a point where a certain amount of natural ability is required. You have to have good acting instincts, you have to have a natural sense of timing, and you have to know how to entertain and audience.

我觉得“good”动画师必须具备天生的表演和创建吸引人的pose和action的能力。一个“bad”动画师要么没有学到足够的东西去达到他的潜能的高度，要么没有那些才华去超越平庸。
I think "good" animators have an innate knack for performance and creating appealing poses and actions. A "bad" animator either hasn't learned enough to reach his or her potential yet, or just doesn't have that natural talent to rise above mediocrity.

说的好。我也应该提到才华本身并不会让你成为了不起的动画师。没有纪律和努力的才华不会带你走很远。你绝对需要工作去开发你的表演和娱乐直觉，不管他们本来就有多么强烈。
Good points, Frank and Dhar. I should also have mentioned that talent alone does not make you a great animator either. Talent without discipline and hard work wont take you far. You definitely need to work to develop your acting and entertainment instincts, however strong they may naturally be.

比如（我希望自己在这个帖子里不会看起来像一个精英混球）：我的动画在过去的十年中取得了长足的进步，通过练习和观察，而且越发学而知不足。但是不管我怎么努力，我知道自己也永远做不到像Doug Sweetland 那样优秀（或者其他一些神奇的Pixar动画师那样）。他具有的一些与生俱来的天才我永远无法通过教或者学去获得。
As a matter of example (so I hopeful don't sound like an elite jerk in this post): my animation has improved a lot over the past 10 years, through practice and observation, and the more I learn the more I realize I have a lot more to learn. But no matter how hard I work at it, I know I will NEVER be as great an animator as Doug Sweetland (or some of the other fantastic animators at Pixar). He has a certain inborn genius that can't be taught or learned.
