The Ziyang Classical Academy

The Ziyang classical academy, commonly known as Ziyang Cave, was called "the memorial hall of Zhuwengong" Originally. It was first built in the 9th year of JiaJin's Reign in Ming Dynasty ( that's 1530 A.D.) by Huang Xiying---the District Magistrate of Zhenyuan Prefecture, and repaired in the 11th year of KangXi's Reign in Qing Dynasty. At the beginning, it was made for commemorating Zhu Xi (also called Sir Ziyang) who was a great philosopher, educationist and literator of Southern Song Dynasty, and the hall was a site for teaching Confucianism. It was one of the important sites where education was developed and Confucianism was early spread in the east Guizhou. But after several times of destroying and repairing, it partly became the Taoist arena. Now there still left some architectures, such as the Mountain Gate, the Triangle Pavilion, the Antique Study Hall, the Thunder God Temple (also called Laojun Temple), and the Sage Temple. There were two kinds of temple fair held around Ziyang Cave, namely Leizu fair and Du Kang fair (there should have a Du Kang Temple on the concavity of the cliff behind the Thunder God Temple), with purposes of offering sacrifices to the Thunder God whose name is Wen Zhong and the God of Wine whose name is Du Kang.
