Longdd: We are aiming for top 3

Teams all around the world are preparing for SMM. myMYM caught up with CH's own star-player and asked about preparations and much more.

Xiang 'longdd' Huang has always been an iconic figure and represents a big part of the Asian competitive scene. Starting out in team NEBULA, his fame rose drastically when the team managed to seize the championship trophy in CPL 2006. Due to this, China's powerhouse, EHOME signed the rising superstar and that was when his real professional gaming career began.

Longdd is now playing for team
CityHunter where the team recently came second in World Cyber Games China. With the recent addition of former Razer.cn player, BurNing, CH is looking as strong as ever and is pretty much ready for SMM Grand National DotA Tournament in Malaysia next month.

With SMM in Malaysia approaching, there have been a rapid rise of interest in the Asian DotA scene lately. Therefore, myMYM has conducted an exclusive interview with the Chinese star to talk about the differences between Asian and European DotA, expectations for upcoming tournaments, professionalism and much more.

Welcome, longdd. We're extremely glad to have you here. Recently a 40 day long offline DotA event was announced with a prize pool of 10.000 Euro. It's not confirmed but if it is would you like to attend it?
Hello, everyone. Yes, if we're invited we will most likely attend this event.

The tournament is basically the depiction of ProLeague for Starcraft in Korea. Do you think that it will work? What sort of problems do you see with such a tournament?
I think it will work really good. I can't find any problems for a professional team to attend this huge event.

Did you follow ESTC Winter 2009 where the Singaporean team XtC emerged as the champions? Were you surprised with the winner?
We weren't surprised at all. We've practiced a lot with them and they are a really strong team.

In ESTC they used a 60 minute rule to give the games more action. Our very own Maelk commented on this and said it could defeat the purpose of lategamers and a chance of a comeback. What do you have to say about this and do you have a comment on what Maelk said?
Well. Every rule has it's own strategy. I think we should just get used to it and adapt to different styles. So, I can't agree to Maelks opinion of the rule.

Moving over to SMM. It will be the largest event as of yet with the best from both Europe and Asia. How will you prepare for this event?
SMM is very important to me, this event will have the best teams gathered and it's the greatest thing a professional Chinese team can take part in. We are very busy making preparations and I hope we can perform well this time. Every player is looking forward to it. The only thing that we're worried about is the map version since we've been affected by this many times before. We can't really get used to it. We will decrease our training two days before the event so that our players can relax, and have an excellent state of mind. For now we will increase our training and prepare with and for the best teams around today.

Have you given your rivals extra attention, like watching replays etc, to have an advantage?
Of Course, this is an absolute must and it's also a habit you must have. We try our best to understand our opponent and with that we can do good in ban/picks. I analyze their playing style and strategy as well.

Do you have any secret strategies that you will display once you're there?
I can't really tell you if this is the case or not, hehe. But I hope I can surprise you in some way.

What are your expectations for the event? Which teams do think will be in the final 4? Will the American and European teams stand a chance?
We got third place at last years SMM, and I hope we can improve this time around. I'm always thinking Dota in China is as strong as Dota in Europe. And as for top 4.. I think it will be fnatic(if they will go), Kingsurf, EHOME and CH.

Do you feel there's a difference between Asian and European DotA? If so, what's the biggest differences?
The biggest difference is playing style. What kind of item-build for a certain hero, the positioning of a hero and also how you play it. Asia is also known to use heroes Europe does not.

myMYM recently published an article about professionalism in e-sports. Are you satisifed with the level of professionalism in the Asian DotA scene? If not, what could change?
Overall, I'm satisifed. Nowadays, the level of Asian DotA is improving a lot. More and more people begin to watch it and there are more events. The WCG 2009 which was held in Chengdu really gave a boost to DotA in Asia.

As what Ks.int previously stated that DotA or eSports in general is really huge in China and Asian countries. How do you feel about stardom? Are you generally a shy guy or do you like to be in the center of attention? Do you have a lot of girl fans?
I wished there could be even more and more people caring about DotA, giving us more attention. As for girl fans, I couldn't tell you because if my girlfriend sees this she would kill me.

Okay, let's finish with the regular quick questions.
MYM or SK?
MYM!
Maelk or hyhy? hyhy.
Loda or longdd? longdd.
vigoss or Bruce Lee in a fight? vigoss!
Asian girls or western girls? Asian.
6.48b or 6.64? 6.48b.
Favourite team and player through all time? CH and iceiceice
Best DotA moment ever? Winning the 2007 ACG.

That's about all we had. Thank you for the interview and we wish you best of luck in SMM. Do you have any final shoutouts?
Shoutout to my friends who are always supporting me and my opponents who defeats me and makes me a better player. I'd also like to thank myMYM and wish them a successful future.
