1. Fire gutted a Missouri home for the elderly and mentally ill Monday morning. At least 10 people died, 24 others were injured. The cause is under investigation.
 
2. Nine people died in a deadly fire at a Dominican Republic nightclub. Police say the blaze broke out early Monday morning after the club had closed. The victims all worked at the club.
 
3. The US military says an F-16 jet crashed in Anbar province in Iraq. The military did not release information on what caused the crash or the status of the pilot. A witness says he saw the jet flying erratically before it went down.
 
4. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the White House. A cart and horse delivered the official tree to the First Lady this morning in Washington. It reaches 18 feet tall and is from a tree farm in Pennsylvania.

1. An early morning shooting in the Queens Borough of New York City has left one man dead on his wedding day. It is not clear what sparked the fatal shooting, but witnesses say police shot 3 men who had just left a bachelor party. Two other men in the group were hospitalized; one remains in critical condition.
 
2. With dangerously cold temperatures predicted for Saturday night, the search is widened for 2 young brothers missing from the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The boys have been missing from their Minnesota home since Wednesday morning. The FBI is investigating the possibility of foul play.
 
3. British detectives are now searching through hours of security video, looking for clues into who may have poisoned an ex-Russian spy. Alexander Litvinenko died Thursday from a fatal dose of a radioactive substance. Litvinenko, a fierce critic of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, left bitter words for him from his deathbed.
 
4. These images show icebergs that have drifted unusually close to the coast of New Zealand. Large chunks of one iceberg have broken off, exposing a rare sight--the normally hidden underside of the iceberg.

2. Ninety homes were damaged when an explosion from a nearby chemical plant shook the town of Danvers, a neighborhood about 20 miles north of Boston. Authorities in Massachusetts are pleased that despite the widespread damage only 10 people were hurt and none seriously injured.
 
3. "No comment". That’s the response from the United States Secret Service after President Bush’s 24-year-old daughter Barbara Bush was robbed of her purse and cellphone in broad daylight while visiting Argentina.
 
4. It sounds like a thriller movie, but it’s not. Philippines' airport authorities have foiled an attempt by a Filipino woman to smuggle more than 100 poisonous snakes and lizards to Thailand Tuesday.

1. Iraqi police say 21 Iraqis were killed Monday in a series of attacks across the country including a popular Iraqi TV comedian. Authorities also found the bodies of 26 people who had been kidnapped and tortured. Assassins tried but failed to kill 2 government officials.
 
2. Thousands turned out in Indonesia to protest President Bush’s visit to the world’s most populous Muslim nation. There’s a public anger over the US foreign policy in the Middle East and the war in Iraq. But after a meeting with Indonesia’s president, Bush said the protest was a sign of a healthy democracy.
 
3. An armed and masked 18-year-old stormed his former high school in Germany, shooting and wounding 5 people before he was found dead. The gunman had homemade pipe bombs and appeared to be carrying other explosives on his body.
 
4. Mothers Against Drunk Driving is launching a new campaign for tougher enforcement and better technology like alcohol detection devices. The national campaign to eliminate drunk driving kicks off today.

1. President Bush and other leaders attending a summit in Vietnam have released a statement that they will try to resume global trade talks. Discussions fell apart after countries failed to agree on the terms of farm trade. The leaders are also urging North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program.
 
2. Thousands marched in Indonesia Sunday to protest Monday's scheduled visit by President Bush. Demonstrators chanted and carried anti-Bush signs. Many Islamic followers in Indonesia are angry over the US-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan which they see as attacks on Muslims.
 
3. Fans filled Times Square Sunday eager to get their hands on the newest Nintendo video game console. Wii is hitting the shelves just in time for the holiday season. Nintendo says it expects the new console will carve out its own niche in the gaming market which it will share with Sony's Play Station 3.
 
4. "Say cheese". These are the first photos released from the star-studded wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Both bride and groom wore Giorgio Armani designs. Holmes and Cruise were married Saturday outside Rome.

1. On this Veterans’ Day, President Bush is praising US troops as "our nation's finest citizens". Speaking at Arlington National Cemetery, Bush thanked US servicemen and women, and urged other Americans to do the same. Before his remarks, the president laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns.
 
2. While many National Guard members are returning from duty just in time for Veterans’ Day, some combat brigades could be sent back for a second tour. Sending troops back to Iraq would depart from a Pentagon decision not to deploy reserves for more than 2 years.
 
3. The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution, condemning the recent Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip. US Ambassador John Boton says the Arab-backed draft resolution was biased against Israel and politically motivated.
 
4. Western Wisconsin residents are shoveling out after a snowstorm hit the region. Fast falling flurries dumped six inches of snow on the area. Police say the storm made roads extra slippery but there were no serious problems.

1. In a new audiotape released Friday, Al-Qaida in Iraq claims that it has mobilized 12,000 fighters. The group says it welcomes the departure of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and wants the US to stay in Iraq, so they'll have the chance to kill more American troops.
 
2. Yesterday, it was the House of Representatives. Today, President Bush met with Democratic leaders from the Senate. ''The election is over. The problems haven't gone away.'' Afterwards, Bush stressed willingness to work together and Dick Durbin, the Senate's No.2 Democrat, says it's important to start out on the right foot.
 
3. The FBI has opened an investigation into a violent arrest that was caught on video tape in Los Angeles. The video shows two officers holding down a suspect on the sidewalk as one of the officers punches him several times in the face. The 24-year-old man repeatedly yells that he can't breathe.
 
4. And from Atlanta, black and white prove that some experiences are universal -- like getting a shot. During her weekly exam, a 64-year-old female panda cub at the Atlanta Zoo didn't like the vaccine any more than the rest of us.

3. Arabs are outraged over an Israeli attack that killed 18 people in a Gaza town. The Palestinian Health Ministry says among the dead are 8 children from an extended family. An exiled leader of Hamas has declared an end to the truce with Israel and says his group will retaliate "in deeds, not words".
 
4. And on Interstate 85 near Charlotte, North Carolina, 2 pickups carrying 2 very different kinds of cargo collided Tuesday, leaving a truck full of cows mingling on the road next to a steeple from a church. No one was seriously injured.

1. October is the deadliest month this year for US troops in Iraq. A soldier and a marine were killed yesterday, bringing the death toll to 80 this month. With less than 10 days to go, October could become the deadliest month in 2 years.
 
2. Another Democrat could soon throw his hat into the presidential race. Democrat Senator Barack Obama said today he is considering a run for the White House. He says the mid-term elections could have an influence on his decision.
 
3. Madonna's facing more trouble trying to adopt a boy from Malawi this time from the boy's father. He tells the Associated Press that he gave up his 13-month-old son to Madonna, but never was told it would be permanent. He says he thought the material girl would just educate and care for David Banda. But he thought the boy would then return home.
 
4. A crime by thieves paid off for archaeologist in Egypt. Grave robbers found 3 tombs but were arrested before the tombs could be opened. Egyptian archaeologists took up the dig and discovered the graves of 3 dentists to ancient kings.
