在未来，人类基因中的优秀因子消失了，导致战乱四起，人类几近灭亡，于是科学家派出一个叫MIMZY的兔子回到过去，试图在源头改变人类基因......
电影从儿童的场面开始，也始终保持着儿童的视角去讲述，偶尔兼顾一下成人的观点，但总体还是儿童“喜闻乐见”的片子。虫洞效应，大致来讲，就是根据相对论，理论上存在连接不同时空的通道，而实际的物体可以经由这个通道进行时空转换。片中的兄妹两人偶然遇到激发虫洞的设备，而他们善良的心——尤其是妹妹Emma，使得他们能够拯救人类的未来。
虽然情节上不乏许多漏洞和勉强，但作为儿童电影来看的话也还不错，推荐初中阶段的孩子观看。

Emma的名字是有其含义的。“Emma”在佛教中是生死之神，在意大利文中意为无所不能，古德文里则是个性依赖和护理者。Emma是人类的母亲（见影片结尾处），所以Emma's tears（母亲的眼泪）让人性像花一样的开放就不难理解了。《圣经》中有关百合的由来是这样的，传说夏娃和亚当受到蛇的诱惑吃下禁果，因而被逐出伊甸园。夏娃悔恨之余不禁流下悲伤的泪珠，泪水落地后即化成洁白芬芳的百合花。在中世纪的许多圣母画象中，百合花都画成既没有雄蕊，又没有雌蕊，意味着没有任何性的邪念。在欧洲，百合又即圣洁与复活的代名词，象征着母爱。如果“instruction for an awakening”是人性的纯真，那么“And it spread like wild flowers”应该意指百合。在电影中还有不能忽视的就是Emma的哥哥Noah，大家都知道诺亚方舟（Noah's Ark），人类厮杀、争斗、掠夺，最后是Noha的方舟救赎并开启了新生。
在很多时候电影主人公的名字包含了作者对电影的特殊寄托。
