Indian culture enjoys an international reputation for brass and bell metalwork. The technology of metal working had been entrenched in Indian culture since 2500 B.C. This technology has been manifested in many elegant images.
These images are still found in temples. They are still being produced on household things such as lamps, plates and other items. The metals being used for these products are mostly gold, silver, copper, brass, bronze, and other mixed metals.
In fact, the world-famous dancing figure of Nataraja (the king of dancers), which is an important figure in Indian culture, is a piece of perfect bronze work. This piece of art shows the achievement of art in Indian culture.
An even more remarkable fact is that most of the everyday household tools that people in India use are art objects. The simplest tools ranging from the kitchen ladle to the water-pot, are all perfect examples of the art in Indian culture.
Even the simple water-pot takes on many forms and shapes. Woodcraft has a variety of styles, ranging from select temple craftsmen to makers of statues.
The delicate earthen pottery has a rich tradition in India. In most areas, the art form included pots and jars of different shapes, some of which are only for decoration and some of which are useful. But in the time of the rains, the village potter’s wheel has to stop working.
Ivory is yet another special material which has been used by the Indian craftsmen to produce things like necklaces or rings.
The Indian craftsmen are so clever that they produce perfect work. In fact, the jewelry and trinkets4 made in India show a lot about the ancient Indian culture.
