About the Game:
Uplink is about hacking lots and lots of computers and never get caught ( of
course if u are lucky :) ).
It involves some strategy and brains before you can solve some of the more
difficult servers.
Bugs:
Theres a bug where it will cause your uplink to crash when u try to start it.
It normally occurs after u upgrade your gateway or use the V4 Log Deleter. The
fix to it is to download a patch from www.introversion.com. Bug fixed at v 1.01

1. GETTING STARTED
Create a new user and fill up the small form and get in. They will ask you for
the letters and numbers at a certain place of some card that comes with the cd.
If you do not have the card or you are too lazy to take it out of your cd case,
it is included in the walkthrough (At section 9. Uplink codes). After
downloading the Uplink Operating System, you will be presented with a big
screen of many many things. The top having your date, time, time shifter, CPU
usage and World Map.
At the bottom, u will have your software launcher, Hardware status, Memory
status, Personal Status, Financial Status, Email Sender and any mails or jobs u
may have.
The time shifter is useful when u have to shift time in order to get new jobs,
wait for hardware upgrades and others.
CPU usage is important as it will determine how fast or how slow your password
breaker works when it is ran.
The world map is a place where u can bump your connection around to get the
most time possible to get the job done. If additional time is needed, you can
connect to the Internic server and add more links to your UOS.
Software launcher is basically used to launch software.
All the status buttons are to reveal status information on the self-explained
titles.
2. FIRST MISSION

Ok, lets get things started. Firstly, log on to the bank server and click on
Manage Account. Then, add another thousand to your loans. Disconnect. Then now
log on to the Internal Services server. Click on software upgrades, then buy
Password Breaker. Then scroll down even more and click on Trace Tracker. Click
Next version until you see version 4.0. Purchase that. (Tip from GameFaqs
Forums from CurSeD MiRaGeR [kupomog231@aol.com] ) Version 4 is especially
better than other versions. Especially when it counts down even when very
little CPU power is given to it. And of my own opinion, it is always better to
purchase the latest version as when u are upgrading your software version, it
costs the same as when u buy the whole thing.
Disconnect. Click on the world map. Click on the square where it says Uplink
Int. Bank. Then On the square where it says Uplink Public Access Server. Then
on InterNic. Then on the Uplink Internal Services Server and finally on the
Uplink Test Server.
Click on Connect. After connecting, click on the confirmation button, then
click on the Software Launcher (The huge icon at the bottom left hand corner of
the screen). Click on crackers > Password Breaker. Then click on the password
field and increase the CPU usage for the Password breaker to max by clicking on
the arrow pointing to the right.
When it is done, press Process and click on File Server. Click on the software
launcher and click on file utilities and click on File Copier V1.0. Increase
its CPU usage and click on the file Uplink test Data. Then while waiting for it
to complete, click on the Memory Bank icon (third from left) (at bottom of
screen).
When it is done, click on the Select Memory Slot and click on a free space in
your memory bank. It will be saved there. Immediately disconnect from the
server. Then click on the email which asks you to conduct that hack and click
on Reply. Click on attach and click on Uplink test Data. Finally, click on
send. It will reply with the notice that u have not gotten a single cent for
participating in a hack simulation and u will be promoted to Beginner.
From now on u can get new missions from the Mission List at the Internal
Services Server and you can congratulate yourself for successfully hacking into
your first machine.
3. GATEWAY COMPUTER
Your gateway to the internet. Your shield that prevents you from ever getting
caught. (Provided you clear up your mess and leave before they trace u). Its
kinda strange that the speed of your programs are determined by the gateway's
CPU and not yours.
You can upgrade the Software and hardware and even your gateway to aid you in
hacking better highly secured computers. But that will be covered in the next
few sections.
4. Software
Decribes softwares and uses. V1 and on are the versions and the number before
the c is the price. The number before Gq is the amount of space needed in
Giga-Quads.
DECRYPTER (Don't confuse with Decypher)

It decrypts files that have encryption. Very simple. Decrypter Version 1
decrypts level one encryption. And so on and so forth.

Version 1 is very slow. Version 2 is slightly faster. Version 3 is still
slightly faster... They are about the same speed. SLOW. It takes about 30
seconds on a 60Ghz to decode a banks elliptic curve.
DICTIONARY HACKER

Fast way to crack a password. But not a 100% chance of getting a password. Not
reliable. Wastes space. I would suggest getting the Password Breaker. No
versions.
FILE COPIER AND DELETER
V1 of both 100c each

Obvious isn't it? And u will have it with you at the start of the game. Wonder
why they sell it... No versions too.
FIREWALL BYPASS

Needs HUD:Connection Analysis to work. It bypasses Firewalls (Duh!). Version 1
to 5 disables each level of firewall protection. Basically, if I were every
single one of you out there, I would save up until I can afford version 5 which
costs 10000c before getting it. Beats having to buy it again and again and
again to upgrade.
FIREWALL DISABLE

When you buy a 16Gq or above memory, it will get you more than 1 piece of
memory. Because the memory is shown by blocks of 8Gq pieces that look like RAM
on a motherboard (only flat down). So when u buy 32Gq, it gives u 4 pieces.

I'm not sure how this is gonna work. Basically, you get a motion sensor and a
self destruct and you run the motion sensor as a driver. Then when it sortof
tells u someone is near, u run the nuke driver and BOOM. Your gateway is gone.
But u are not caught. I wonder what difference does it make...
6. Gateway Upgrades
You gateway is your life. Good gateway = Good Life. Good life = More pay.
More Pay = Better Gateway. Get it?
When choosing a gateway to upgrade to, think of whether u will be:
1. Downloading Big fat 11Gq files that end up with like 110Gq altogether
2. Breaking into banks with Elliptic Curve, Voice Print and Userid:Pwd
The former would require you to get a gateway that supports a huge amount of
memory while the latter will require you to get one that compromises space for
speed. Either master one or be the jack of all trades, master of none and get
the Trinity Gateway.
Be reminded that bandwidth can be upgraded to 10Gq/s by buying a better modem.
