follow (vt.) 跟随

(1)   Don’t follow me. = Don’t come after me.

(2)   follow sb. to do sth. 跟着某人干某事

     e.g. Please follow me to sing the English song. 请跟着我唱一首英文歌。

2．sure (adj.) 确信的，有把握的    

(1)   be sure to do sth. “一定，必然会”（主语可以是人也可以是物）

e.g. You are sure to succeed. 你一定会成功。

    It is sure to rain. 一定会下雨。

(2)          be sure of sth. 主语感到“有把握，确信”，主语是人。

e.g. He is sure of his success. 他确信他会成功。

3．（1）be afraid to do sth. 害怕干某事 e.g. I’m afraid to go out at night. 我害怕夜间出去。

  （2）be afraid of doing sth. 害怕干某事 e.g. I’m afraid of falling off my bike. 我害怕从自行车上摔下来。

  （3）be afraid +that 从句 e.g. I’m afraid that he won’t come tomorrow.我恐怕他明天不会来

4．nearby (adv.) 在附近  e.g. He works nearby. 他在附近工作。

          (adj.) 附近的  e.g. She lives in a nearby town. 她住在附近的一个城镇。

5．police （n.）警察，常和the连用，单复数相同

The police (=The policeman ) is standing there. 那个警察正站在那边。

The police (=The policemen) came here at once. 警察们立刻来到了这里。

policeman的复数是policemen ;       policewoman的复数是policewomen女警察

police officer 警官                  police station 警察局

6．fail (vi.) 失败，不及格，反义词为succeed, pass

    (1)   fail in the exam 考试不及格

(2)   fail to do sth. 未做某事  e.g. She failed to catch the early bus. 她未能赶上早班车。

7．(1) work (vi.) (机器等)运转，活动，起作用

   e.g. My watch doesn’t work. 我的手表不走了。His bike doesn’t work.他的手表坏了。

(2) work out 算出，制定出

   e.g. I can work out the Maths problem. 我能算出那道数学题。

8．another (adj.) 另一个，别的

(1) another+ 单数名词 e.g. I’m going to take another route. 我走另一条路线。

(2) another+ 数字+ 复数名词 e.g. another ten days 另外的十天

(3) 固定搭配： one after another 一个又一个

9．stop doing sth.——“停止干某事”（停止原来做的事情）

   stop to do sth.——“停止干某事”（停止原来做的事情去干另一件事）

   e.g. 1）Please stop talking. 请停止说话。

         Please stop to listen to the teacher.请停下来，听老师讲课。

       2）She stops reading. 她停止读书。

          She stops to read. 她停下来，开始读书。
