Dear Mr. Ming Ruan:
The School of Physics at Georgia Tech is delighted to offer you a position in our PhD program starting in the Fall Semester, 2007.
To start your career at Tech, we offer you a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) with a stipend of $20,000 per year. Tuition is waived with this assistantship. As long as you make satisfactory academic progress, this financial support will be continued for five semesters (Fall-Spring-Summer-Fall-Spring). Thereafter, we expect you to obtain financial support from the research funds of a Georgia Tech faculty member. You are responsible for mandatory health insurance (about $400 per semester) and student activity fees (about $500 per semester).
The phrase “satisfactory academic progress” above means maintenance of a B average each semester. You also must pass the PhD Qualifying Exam.
This offer is contingent upon satisfactory completion of your undergraduate degree. If you have not yet completed your degree program, please arrange to have your final transcripts mailed directly from your registrar's office to the Office of Graduate Admissions at Georgia Tech once you graduate. The transcript must be final in the sense that it includes the name and date of the degree awarded.
If you choose to accept our offer, please send me an email before April 20, 2007, stating your acceptance. Note that this offer is only reserved until that date. Although we look forward to your acceptance, if you decide to decline it, I would appreciate an e-mail stating so.
Sincerely,
Dr. James Sowell
Director of Graduate Recruitment
