San Jose State University Academic Progress Policy/Agreement for The Aid Year 2009
Student who receive either Federal or State Financial Aid (including Loans) to attend SJSU are obligated (责任) to make satisfactory academic progress toward their degree. Student who accept financial aid enter into a contract or agreement to attend class, complete their assignments, seek tutorial assistance if necessary, and prepare for exams. In effect, Financial Aid students must take responsibility and make every effort to ensure their educational success.
The SJSU Academic Progress Policy/Agreement consists of five major points. Please read carefully. Your signature on page on signifies your understanding and acceptance of this policy.
1. Completion of Units
Students are expected to enroll full-time unless they have previously notified the Financial Aid Office on the Student Information Update Form or the Enrollment Revision Form. Aid may be prorated for less than full-time enrollment. Undergraduate, 2nd BA and credential (资格证书) students are expected to carry and complete at least 12 units each semester. MA/MS students are expected to carry and complete at least half time to receive any financial aid, including loans (6 units for undergraduate, 2nd BA or credential students; 4 units of 200 level classes for grad students). Students who stop attending class must notify the Financial Aid Office.
2. Maximum Completion
Financial Aid eligibility is limited to 6 years or 180 units (whichever comes first) for undergraduate students. Second Baccalaureate, credential and graduate eligibility is limited to 3 years or 60 units. Please note that years/units are accumulated (积累) from all previous colleges attended regardless of whether you received financial aid. A hold will be placed on future aid for all students who exceed the maximum time limits.
Units must be applicable to General Education or Declared Major requirement. Students are encouraged to see their Academic Advisor prior to registration each semester. Academic success and timely graduation must be your first priority. Juniors and seniors should complete a departmental major from under the guidance of an Academic Advisor as soon as the department allows to ensure graduation within the established time limits. Changes of major are permitted as long as the maximum time limits are not exceeded.
3. GPA
Students should achieve and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA by the end of sophomore year. Please note that a 2.0 GPA is required for graduation.
4. Academic Review
Academic Progress will be monitored. Students not meeting the requirements will be notified accordingly (相应地), and in some cases, terminated from aid. Failure to meet the Academic Progress requirements will result in an automatic hold on all future aid.
5. Appeal Progress
Students who are terminated from financial aid or have a hold on future aid may appeal in writing to the Financial Aid Academic Progress Committee. Students will be notifed with 21 working days upon petition submission via the my.sjsu.edu portal if their appeal has been approved.
