It was many and many years ago, 很久很久以前，

这首诗是爱伦坡的为了纪念他的亡妻弗吉尼亚.克莱姆Virginia Clemm，作者在诗里也理想化了他的妻子，这首诗被认为是爱伦坡抒情诗的巅峰之作。我国清末的著名文人辜鸿铭认为，除了这首《安娜贝尔.李》以外，美国便没有什么诗了。虽然观点有点偏颇，但可见Annabel Lee的魅力了。爱伦坡这些最简单的语言传达了他最真挚的感情，在我看来，苏东坡的《江城子—乙卯正月二十日夜记》的意境倒和Annabel Lee颇为相似：

十年生死两茫茫,不思量,自难忘。千里孤坟,无处话凄凉,纵使相逢应不识,尘满面,鬓如霜。

夜来幽梦忽还乡,小轩窗,正梳妆。相顾无言,惟有泪千行。料得年年肠断处,明月夜,短松岗。

多美的诗啊，学校图书馆两本艾伦坡精选已经被我反烂了，可惜找不到更多他的作品，好遗憾，他不但是优秀的诗人，成功地小说家，还在文学理论方面有很高的成就，最厉害的是他是侦探小说的鼻祖，看来柯南道尔，阿加萨都要感谢他了，呵呵，我最喜欢的却是他临死前的遗言“愿上帝拯救我肮脏的灵魂”

Allen Poe，这位近代非常著名的美国世人，其作品充满了忧伤的感怀，往往能最大的激发人的同情心和对悲哀的审美意识。他的《Annabel Lee》发表于成名前期，悲哀和伤感的风格已经可见一斑；其中表现的真挚爱情和悲痛欲绝的心态让人黯然泪下，而看过以后又对其美妙的韵律回味不已。这是一首十音部诗歌（每句分别为10个和7个音节），押韵格式为abab，完全模仿莎士比亚的商体诗，但是与莎氏积极向上，清新脱俗的风格迥然不同，蔚然自成一家。诗中遣词比较平实，甚至有点口语化，但是表现的意境却很高远。
