Article 2

1.      pensioner (n.)---someone who is receiving a pension,especially an

                    old age person (领养老金的人)

pension (n.)---an amount of money paid regularly by a government or

                  company to someone who is officially considered to be

                  too old or too ill to earn money by working(养老金,

                     退休金)

              e.g. live on a pension (靠退休金生活)

                   draw one’s pension (领退休金)

                   retire on a pension (领退休金退休)

        v.---to make sb. leave his job,especially because of old

                   age or illness ,and pay his a pension(给人养老金)

             pension sb. off   (给人养老金,退休金)

           e.g. Jean was pensioned off at 55.

pensionable (n.)---giving sb. the right to receive a pension                               

                      (有领养老金资格的)

                   e.g. a pensionable age

2.      the fast lane

lane (n.)---the two or three parallel areas on a main road which are

                divided by painted lines to keep fast and slow traffic

                apart (车道,线道)

the outside lane (BrE) = (AmE) the fast lane   (快车道)

   --- the lane for going past other vehicles

the inside lane (BrE) = (AmE) the slow lane      

the central lane (BrE) = (AmE) the middle lane

3.      exit ←→ entrance (出口 ←→ 入口)

4.      do a U-turn (车子调头)

5.      contact (v.)---to write to or telephone sb.(联络;与接触,来往)

e.g. He contacted the police and caught the thief.

     How can I contact you?

U.---communication with a person, organization, country etc

       (与人的接触,交往;联系,联络)

   e.g. He hasn’t had any contact with his son for months.

        

7. DM--- Deutch Mark (德国马克)

8.      fine (n.)---money that you have to pay as a punishment(罚款,罚金)

        e.g. I got a $40 fine for speeding.

             There’s a heavy fine for driving drunk.(对酒后开车处以巨额

                                                     罚款

             I forgot to return my books on time and paid $3 in library

               fines.

   →(v.)---to make sb. pay money as a punishment(处以罚款,处以罚金)

        fine sb. for doing sth.

       e.g.She was fined for passing a stopped school bus.

Article 3

1.     happen (v.)---if an event happens, it continues for a period of time,

                 especially without being planned first(偶然发生)

           e.g.The accident happened early on Monday morning.

               No one knows who had fired the gun--it happened so quickly.

                (没人知道谁开的枪一切发生得太快了.

happen to sb.(某人发生某事)

e.g.What happened to you last night?

    A funny thing happeded to me on my way home.

happen to do sth. (碰巧发生某事)

e.g.I happened to meet her in the supermarket.

      It happened to rain when I left the office yesterday afternoon.`
