1.depose 有及物动词和不及物动词两种用法，并且两种用法的意思截然不同。作为及物动词vt 时的意思是指：“废黜，罢免”e.g. The head of the state was deposed by the army.国家元首被军队罢免了。作为不及物动词vi 常用于法律中，意思为“（在法庭上）宣誓作证”。此时不及物动词depose后常常加介词to，或者从句时加that。E.g. The witness deposed to having seen the two men steal the jewels. 对应的名词为deposition。注意：deposition不仅是depose对应的名词，也是deposit对应的名词。因此，deposition作为名词时的含义有：1.罢免2.<律>在（法庭上）宣誓作证，证词，证言。3.沉积，沉积物，沉积作用。4.（沉积而形成的）矿床。5.寄存物，沉积物，电（沉）积作用。注意：depositional对应的是deposit的形容词，因此没有depose对应的含义。artificial deposition 人工淤填 cathodic deposition 阴极淀积（cathodic阴极的，负极的） coastal deposition 海岸沉积 electro deposition 电镀, 电解法精炼electrolytic deposition 电解淀积, 电镀
2.deposit可以作为不及物动词vi，及物动词vt，和名词。作为不及物动词时，只有“沉积”之意思。e.g.: If you evaporate a little sea water on a porcelain dish; on cooling, crystals of common salt will deposit on the sides of the dish.如果你将少许海水放到瓷盘中蒸发, 冷却后就会有普通食盐的结晶附着在盘的四周。作为及物动词有多种含义：1. 放下,放置;寄存[O] You can deposit your bags at the counter. 你可将皮包存放在柜台处。2. 使沉淀;使沉积 The river deposited silt at its mouth. 那条河在河口沉积淤泥。3. 把(钱)储存,存放(银行等)[(+in)] He deposited 5,000 dollars in the bank. 他在银行存了五千元。 4. 付(保证金)，预付定金。He deposited a small amount of money toward the purchase of the car他为买这辆汽车先付了少量订金。务必注意：deposit可以作为名词，其词义和deposition有部分相同。（deposition还有depose的词义）。1. 存款[C]2. 保证金;押金;定金[C]You must pay a deposit if you want to reserve the room.你要预订房间,就得先付定金。 3. 沉淀物;矿床[C][U]矿藏The country is short of known deposits of coal.这个国家缺少已知的煤矿矿床。 4. 堆积;沉淀[U][C] surficial deposit(地质)表层沉积 volcanic deposits 火山堆积 undated deposit 不定期存款 wholesale deposits 大额存款 withdraw deposit 提取存款 deposit with public utility corporation 公用事业保证金 deposit account 有息存款;储蓄存款（imp） deposit allowance 存款利息 deposit book 存折 deposit premium 预付保险费 depositor储户 depository [diˈpɔzitəri] 存放处
3. dispose (对应的形容词disposable)可作为不及物动词，及物动词。做不及物动词讲时有1.处置，处理 dispose of sth. e.g.: dispose of these old books. 2.(能)决定。e.g.: Man proposes, God disposes.谋事在人，成事在天。做及物动词时讲，有多种含义：1.处理，整理，处置。2. 配置，布置。dispose troops along the river沿河布置军队。3.倾向于，使…易陷于，使…有意于，适合于。The good pay disposed him to take the job.高薪促使他接收这份工作。 常用搭配：be/feel disposed for sth.有意，愿意，倾向于。 be/feel disposed to do sth.有意，愿意，倾向于。 be ill disposed to/towards 对…有恶感 dispose sb. for sth. 使某人倾向于[做]某事 dispose sb. to do sth. 使某人倾向于[做]某事 dispose of 解决, 处理, 安排；驳倒, 除掉; 杀死；吃掉, 喝光；卖掉。
注意：dispose对应的名词有两个，分别为：disposal, disposition 这两个词都可以做“处置，处理”。但是两者有区别。disposal所处理的多半是废物，其方式可以是“卖”，“白送”甚至“毁掉”。In time of war the government must have entire disposal (or disposition) people and material resources of the state. 在战争时期，政府必须完全支配国家的人力和物力资源。The disposition (or disposal) of rubbish is always a problem.而disposition处理的是有用的东西，侧重于将物品整齐地排列起来。 短语1. at one's disposal 和 at (或in) one's disposition 都表示“任意支配”，即想怎么处置就怎么处置。然而前者特别强调两点：①任意使用；②任凭某人的指挥。 短语2. put sth. at sb.'s disposal 把某物交某人自由处理。 trash disposal 废物处理
dispose对应的形容词为：disposable [dispos+able] 其含义为：1.一次使用后即丢掉的, 一次性的，可任意处理的，自由使用的。2.(纳税后的钱)可自由支配的。e.g.: The advertisement is aimed at people in their 20s with high disposable incomes.这个广告的对象是那些二十多岁且可支配收入高的人士。 常用搭配：disposable business income 企业可用收入 disposable capital 游资,闲置资本 disposable chopsticks 一次性筷子 disposable government income 政府可用收入 disposable profit 可支配利润 disposable income税后所得。 ------参考文献：power word, dict.baidu.com www.fane.cn ------ by 飄雪無聲 2008-10-31 |
